WHAT WE DO
Programs & Services
We develop and deliver community programs, food education, research and public-interest initiatives that help Islanders build food skills, improve food access and strengthen community food security.
ACTIVE PROGRAMS
PEI Cooks
SUPPORTED
STS works with PEI Cooks on cooking education and community programming for Islanders of all ages, including workshops, youth and seniors initiatives, and practical food-skills activities.
Cook Once Eat Thrice
ACTIVE
A practical approach to cooking that turns one cooking session into three separate meals - reducing time, kitchen waste and cost for Island households.
Waste-Not Want-Not Workshops
ACTIVE
Food preservation experts help participants use leftovers creatively, cook once and eat thrice, keep household foods fresher longer and store foods for the long term - reducing waste and stretching every food dollar.
Cooking for One
ACTIVE
Helping singles learn to cook for one - from portion control and stove-to-freezer meals to cooking as a community and sharing meals with each other. Because eating well alone should never mean eating in isolation.
PEI Good Eats
SUPPORTED
STS works with PEI Good Eats to reach Islanders with information about local food, home cooking, community programs and food-related initiatives.
Seniors Food Council
ACTIVE
A group of seniors charged with helping address the home cooking, food budgeting and menu-planning challenges faced by Islanders. The Council brings lived experience and practical wisdom to program design and community outreach.
Smart Shopping
ACTIVE
Workshops and materials helping Islanders get the most out of their food shopping budgets. Field trips to a local grocer help participants search for sales and deals to stretch their food dollar further and shop local.
Young Cooks Council
ACTIVE
A council of kids, tweens and teens helping shape and lead our youth food programs. Members help decide what they want to learn, cook and taste, contribute ideas for workshops and activities, and help develop recipes and content for projects created with and by young people.
COMING SOON
PEI Municipal and Community Playbook
Templates, tools and materials that help municipalities and communities adapt and deliver proven food programs and activities locally, with room to reflect their own needs, audiences and priorities.
PEI Cooks App
Although the PEI Cooks App is a PEI Cooks product, the Canadian Source-to-Supper Network has helped shape and develop it as a practical tool connecting Islanders with recipes, local food resources, programs and community food information.
Community Cooks
Shared community cooking hubs where Islanders come together to cook, learn and share meals - reducing isolation, building skills and stretching food dollars through the power of cooking together.
PEI Food Pulse Poll
Find out what Islanders need, want and think about the food realities on the Island. How do they support Canada and local on a budget? What do they want others to know? What's working and what isn't?
Special Diets
Many on the Island have special diets - from Halal, Kosher, Vegan and Vegetarian to medical needs requiring gluten-free, low-salt, low-fat, dairy-free, nut-free, egg-free or diabetes-friendly options. These sessions and materials help Islanders navigate and address them better.
Storing and Preserving Smart
Practical workshops teaching Islanders how to store and preserve food using the right methods - from root cellaring and freezing to canning and fermentation - so nothing goes to waste.
